DO YOU NEED A COLLEGE ADMISSIONS RESUMÉ

Yes! Of the 900 colleges on the Common App, approximately 1/3 provide a place to upload a resumé.

Beyond those schools, you can still include a resumé in the “Additional Information” section of the Common App for all schools. (Unless the school expressly states that they do NOT want a resumé uploaded, though this is rare.)

WHAT IS A COLLEGE ADMISSIONS RESUMÉ?

It is a document that allows you to highlight your academic, extra-curricular, and employment skills, experiences, and achievements. It is often included as part of your college application as additional information that easily allows admissions to see an overview of your high school experience inside and outside of the classroom.

I’VE BARELY HAD ANY JOBS! SHOULD I STILL WRITE A RESUMÉ?

Yes! This is not a resumé to showcase your employment history for a job opening (though if you have employment experience, you’ll want to include it.) This is a resumé to highlight your experiences in high school including academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, leadership roles, and community engagement.

The common app allows you to list Activities and Honors, though there is very little space on the app to add detail. The resumé will allow you to provide a more detail and a more holistic view of you and your experiences.
